BRIDGEPORT, CT., JANUARY 17, 2018 — People's United Community Foundation and People’s United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts, the philanthropic arms of People’s United Bank, N.A., announced that it has awarded a record $3,496,633 in grants to 511 non-profits throughout its footprint in 2017 covering Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. This marks the largest total yearly dollar amount awarded since the Foundations were established.
These grants helped support critical community programs including basic needs services and affordable housing initiatives, education, workforce development and financial literacy classes. Funding was distributed in alignment with the foundations’ focus areas including youth development, community development, affordable housing, social, health, arts and culture.
The largest single grant of $175,000 was awarded to Junior Achievement USA to promote financial literacy and career readiness among students throughout its six-state footprint. The award was part of People’s United Bank’s 175th anniversary celebration.
"This was a significant year for the Foundations, as we not only received both the largest number of grant applications and awarded a record number of grants, but we also celebrated People’s United Community Foundation's 10th anniversary," said Karen Galbo, Executive Director of the Foundation. "Community giving has remained at the core of the bank's culture throughout its 175 year history and we look forward to continuing our community support and expanding our partnerships throughout the communities we serve."
