AARP Fraud Watch Network
People’s United Bank is proud to collaborate with AARP on the Fraud Watch Network to provide our customers and consumers, of all-ages, with instant access to educational resources and information designed to fight identity theft and fraud.
The AARP Fraud Watch Network, provides information about how to protect yourself, and your family and friends, from scams. The Fraud Watch Network provides watchdog alerts about the latest scams, including a scam-tracking map that provides real-time alerts from law enforcement in your state, and connects you to resources on how to spot and avoid them.
Identity Theft and Fraud by the Numbers
Every year, thousands of Americans are impacted by fraud and scams. In a 2015 report from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), identity theft topped the list of consumer complaints for the 15th consecutive year. The total number of fraud and identity theft complaints reported to the FTC’s Consumer Sentinel Network (CSN) has more than tripled in the last 10 years.
State Level Consumer Fraud
According to the latest report on identity theft from Javelin Strategy and Research, more than 13.1 million people were victims of fraud, losing $15 billion in 2015.
In our ongoing efforts to provide the resources and tools to help protect you from fraud, AARP’s Research Team has created State Level Consumer Fraud Fact Sheets to help fight Consumer Fraud in our communities.
The Consumer Fraud Fact Sheets provide state level data on fraud, identity theft, consumer complaints and gives each state a ranking based on research conducted by the Federal Trade Commission.
