People's United Community Foundation Awards More Than $1.1 Million During Initial 2018 Grant Cycle
Awards Granted to 177 Nonprofits Across the Northeast
BRIDGEPORT, CT – The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced that it has awarded $1,133,632 during its first grant cycle of 2018 to 177 nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
Funding was distributed in support of activities that ranged from basic needs services and affordable housing initiatives to education, workforce development and life skills training programs. The grants were disseminated in alignment with the foundation’s three areas of focus, including 39 percent to community and economic development, 29 percent to youth development, and 16 percent to affordable housing initiatives.
The People’s United Community Foundation also contributed 16 percent of its funding to local United Way organizations across its footprint through the People’s United Bank employee match campaign.
