DANNY O’BRIEN TO RETIRE FROM OCEAN BANK; SUCCESSOR NAMED FROM WITHIN THE COMPANY
BRIDGEPORT, CT – Danny O’Brien, President, Ocean Bank, a division of People’s United Bank, has made the decision to retire. O’Brien, who is looking forward to spending more time with his family, will retire effective June 1, 2009. He will be succeeded by Dianne Mercier, who is currently Senior Vice President and Group Manager for Commercial Lending at Ocean Bank.
O’Brien’s 21-year career with the organization began when he joined Chittenden Bank in 1988. He has supervised a wide variety of banking functions and positions involving business development and service delivery for consumers and small businesses. Before assuming the leadership of Ocean Bank in 2003, O’Brien served as Executive Vice President of Commercial and Community Banking at Chittenden Bank. He also served as an officer of Chittenden Corporation.
“Under Danny’s leadership, Ocean Bank has ensured that customers’ needs are always met with strong products and an outstanding customer experience,” said Robert D’Amore, Senior Executive Vice President, Retail and Small Business Banking Group, People’s United Bank. “Over the years, he has been a strong advocate of relationship banking and one of his greatest achievements has been his ongoing dedication to developing the Ocean Bank team.”
Upon O’Brien’s retirement, Dianne Mercier will be appointed President, Ocean Bank. Mercier joined Ocean Bank in 2003 as Senior Vice President and Group Manager, Commercial Lending. In the past six years, she has been responsible for business and market development in Manchester, Nashua and Concord, New Hampshire.

Prior to joining Ocean Bank, Mercier was State Director, Community Banking for Citizens Bank where she was responsible for the initial start-up and strategic development of the State Community Banking Group in New Hampshire. She also played an active role in the implementation of a comprehensive Small Business Lending Model.
Mercier holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University. She is a leader in the local community and is actively involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester and the Greater Manchester Family YMCA. Additionally, she is an Advisory Board Member for the University of New Hampshire at Manchester and has served as the past Board Chair for the Nashua Chamber of Commerce. She is currently serving on the Board for the Central Business District Committee for the City of Manchester and is a Trustee for the Elliot Health System.
