PEOPLE’S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $475,000 TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE FIRST QUARTER 2011

BRIDGEPORT, CT
– The People’s United Community Foundation announced today that it awarded $475,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations in its service area for the first quarter of 2011. A total of 61 organizations received funding in support of their programs, which ranged from basic needs services, to affordable housing initiatives and educational programs for youth.

“We are proud to support throughout our footprint nonprofit agencies that are working together to help build strong communities,” said Hank Mandel, Executive Director of People’s United Community Foundation. “Their leadership and dedication is critical during these hard economic times when the demand for their programs and services are increasing and funding sources decreasing. People’s United Community Foundation is pleased to be able to contribute to the sustainability of these programs so they may continue to serve those in need.”
