People's United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts provides funding to eligible nonprofit organizations within various communities of Eastern Massachusetts.

Eligibility Guidelines

To be considered for a grant from People's United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts, organizations must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a recognized public 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
  • Must operate or serve individuals within the cities/towns specifically identified as the geographic areas served by People’s United Community Foundation of Eastern MA.

Application Guidelines

In addition to the above minimum requirements, organizations must adhere to the following guidelines when applying for a grant from the People's United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts.

  • Funding requests should be for a program or service.
  • Funding requests will be considered during 3 granting cycles per year.
  • Only one application per 12-month period is allowed.
  • Only one grant will be awarded per organization per year.
  • Funding requests will only be accepted electronically via our online application system.
  • Only one grant will be awarded to an organization per year.

People's United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts operates the following grant programs.


Malden Community Fund Program

The Malden Community Fund makes contributions to non-profit organizations based in Malden, MA that provide programs and services that are focused on social, health and youth services, affordable housing, education, arts and culture, and low-to moderate-income individuals. Funds are granted for capital needs and/or one-time special project expenses, with a maximum grant amount of $10,000. The grants range in size, and may be allocated over a multiyear period of up to three years. Funding commitments, however, are generally on a year-to-year basis. The multi-year grants are generally for capital campaigns.


Community Grant Program

The Community Grant Program awards grants to non-profit organizations that provide programs and services that are focused on social, health and youth services, affordable housing, education, arts and culture, and low-to moderate-income individuals. The grants range in size, and may be allocated over a multiyear period of up to five years. Grants up to $50,000 will be considered for annual gifts, and no more than $100,000 on multiyear grants. Funding commitments, however, are generally on a year-to-year basis. The multi-year grants are generally for capital campaigns.

Grant Cycles

People’s United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts accepts and reviews funding requests on a trimester grant cycle. If you are a returning applicant, your organization should apply during the same application deadline period as previously applied, or later.

How to Submit a New Grant Application

  1. Please submit all People's United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts applications through our online grant system. Paper applications will not be accepted.
  2. Applications can be saved prior to submitting your final grant request. You will receive an email from requests@foundationsource.com, our grants management provider, which will include a link to access your saved application. Please be sure to save the email/link.
  3. When you are ready to submit your application, you must click on "SUBMIT" in order for the foundation to be able to review it.

  • Budget Summary form
  • Most recent Audited Financial Statements, if applicable (subject to state laws and federal requirements)
  • Most recent Form 990
  • Final report on previous funding, if applicable

Grant Reporting Requirements

If your organization is a past grant recipient, a final report is required and must be received prior to reapplying for renewed funding.

Final reports should be a 2-3 page summary that addresses the individual goals, strategies and evaluation metrics provided in your last grant application. The results should be defined in clear, measurable terms and demonstrate how the Foundation's funding had an impact on helping your organization accomplish its goals. Success stories can also be included, but must be in addition to the criteria mentioned above.

You will receive an email notification from premiersupport@foundationsource.com, our grants management provider, when your final report is due, which will include a link to access your results report.
