TRIAD CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN HARTFORD NOVEMBER 17

People's Bank, law enforcement and senior groups join together to reduce financial exploitation of the elderly at 4th Annual TRIAD Conference

WHAT:
People's Bank, local and state law enforcement, and senior citizens groups statewide will gather in Hartford to discuss financial fraud perpetrated against the elderly. Police officers, bank representatives and the elderly will discuss recent financial scams that unscrupulous individuals have devised to part seniors from their money. These scams become especially prevalent during the holiday period. Discussion topics will include:

  • How to report financial exploitation
  • The role of law enforcement
  • The role of protective services for the elderly
  • The role of financial institutions in enhancing prevention
  • Prosecuting criminals
  • Recent examples of financial exploitation

The National Association of TRIADs, Inc. is a national organization created to develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for seniors. People's Bank, law enforcement and seniors work together to create TRIAD programs around the state specifically targeted to preventing financial abuse of the elderly. To date, 40 such TRIADs have been established statewide.

This effort is part of People's Masters Program, a program recognized nationally for its leadership in initiating crime prevention and awareness programs for senior citizens. People's Bank is the only financial services organization in the country to provide crime prevention and awareness training to seniors.

WHY:
One in every eight Americans is 65 or older, and law enforcement agencies are adjusting to meet the needs of this country's changing demographic.

WHO:
Keynote speaker state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal;Ed Hutchinson, director, National Association of TRIADs, Inc., Robert D'Amore, executive vice president, People's Regional Banking division;and People's Bank Masters Program Manager Angela DeLeon, who is POST-certified to teach sensitivity training to police officers who help the elderly. DeLeon is chairman of the Connecticut TRIAD Advisory Board and sits on the national TRIAD Advisory Board.
