People's Bank Technology Professional Authors Chapter in Info Security Management Text

New Haven Resident, Ed Gabrys, Discusses International Cyber-Crime

BRIDGEPORT, CONN.
Ed Gabrys, an information technology principal at People's Bank, has authored a chapter on international cyber-crime for the 4th edition of The Information Security Management Handbook, published by Auerbach Publishing. Gabrys' chapter describes businesses' international exposure to computer-based crime including current vulnerabilities and the growing threat of cyber-terrorism.

He illustrates international efforts to mitigate cyber-crime risk, including the Council of Europe's Convention on Cyber-Crime. Gabrys also posits that more cooperation is needed between governments and non-governmental organizations in the development of an international regime to address the cyber-crime risk, but he does take into consideration the privacy needs of the world's citizens.

"It's a decided plus to have someone like Ed on our team," said Frank Cassano, vice president, Information Technology at People's. "His experience and expertise in the information security field - recognized by the editors of the handbook - have helped us identify and manage risk for bankwide benefit."

A 17-year People's veteran, Gabrys was in the bank's mortgage department and branch system before joining the information technology area. He served as Help Desk administrator, client services administrator and technical analyst before being named information security principal in 1998.

A New Haven resident, Gabrys is a member of both the Information Systems Security Association and the Connecticut Chapter of Infragard. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Specialist and holds a bachelor of arts degree in international studies from Fairfield University.
