Personal Safety, Fraud Prevention At People's Bank Hispanic Consumer University


Attorney General Blumenthal to Speak at Free Spanish-Language Event

BRIDGEPORT, CONN.
Senior citizens from Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford will learn from Spanish-speaking instructors about protecting themselves and their money when People's Bank, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and the Norwalk Police Department sponsor a Hispanic Consumer University on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 8 to 11 a.m., at The PepsiCo Theater at Norwalk Community College. The day's events will continue into the afternoon with social activities including entertainment, lunch and socializing.

The free program features:

  • Remarks by Blumenthal;

  • Presentations on how to avoid consumer fraud, enhance personal and financial security and reach out to community resources for assistance;

  • Officer Caesar Ramirez of the Norwalk Police Department and Sandra Arenas, Assistant Attorney General discussing threats to consumer and personal safety;

  • Gail Diaz of the Southwest Connecticut Area Agency on Aging will talk about resources available to senior citizens in ensuring their security;

  • Angela DeLeon, coordinator, People's Bank Masters Program, speaking about personal financial safety.
  • Free transportation to Norwalk Community College will be provided by SADA in cooperation with the Salvation Army and the Southwest Connecticut Area Agency on Aging in Bridgeport, Stamford Dial-A-Ride and the Stamford Police Department in Stamford and Norwalk Senior Services in Norwalk

    People's Masters Program is recognized nationally for its leadership in initiating crime prevention and awareness programs for senior citizens. People's Bank is the only financial services organization in the country to provide crime prevention and awareness training to older customers.

    DeLeon is a member of the board of directors of the Crime Prevention Association of Connecticut (CPAC). She is the only person in Connecticut certified to teach senior sensitivity and senior crime prevention to police officers.
