  APRIL 2, 2002People's Bank Names Barbara Johnson To Lead Community Relations Efforts
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. Klein, president and chief executive officer. In her previous position, Johnson oversaw the acquisition and integration of RC Knox & Company, which People's acquired in 1998, and Beardsley Brown & Bassett, which People's acquired in 1999, into the bank's insurance operations. A career banker with 26 years of financial experience, Johnson was senior vice president, manager, New Haven Region, prior to moving to Insurance Services. Active in the community, Johnson in 1994 received the bank's prestigious Samuel W. Hawley Public Service Award, presented each year to a member of the People's family for his or her exemplary community service. She has served as chair of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and on the boards of directors of numerous organizations around the state, including Connecticare, Inc., the Shubert Theatre and the University of New Haven. She is a graduate of the National School of Banking. She and her husband live in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport.
