About People's United

Long-Term Objective: Marketplace

"To be recognized as an organization committed to diversity through our partnerships with diverse vendors, our marketing efforts, our superior customer service and community involvement."

About Our Marketplace
People's United is committed to strengthening its position as "Connecticut's Bank" by providing financial services tailored to the needs of our diverse customer base.

The bank offers financial products that target a variety of customer segments such as the emerging workforce and women. Recognizing that some of our customers are multilingual, we provide many of our services in more than one language.

The bank also both supports and is involved with the Connecticut Minority Supplier Diversity Council (CMSDC) on vendor-related initiatives.

For over 160 years, People's United Bank has been committed to the communities it serves. In 1842, our founding mission was to offer savings accounts to Bridgeport-area workers, many of whom were recent immigrants. Today, People's United continues its commitment to all the communities we serve through volunteerism and contributions.

People's United is proud to have received an "Outstanding" Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) rating by the FDIC since the evaluation process was implemented in 1977. The CRA encourages depository institutions to help meet credit needs of the communities in which they operate, including low and moderate-income neighborhoods, consistent with safe and sound banking operations.

People's United is a leader in affordable lending programs and in developing partnerships with nonprofit community development organizations. From our innovative affordable mortgage programs to our proprietary Home Buyer Education program, People's United remains deeply involved in community housing needs throughout the state.

People's United provides financial support to more than 250 nonprofit organizations across Connecticut and is a significant donor to the United Way, as a member of the Chairman's Circle. The bank is also proud of its commitment to youth development. John A. Klein, president and CEO and his wife Carla are counted among the founders of Operation Respect CT and serve as co-chairs of its board of directors. This nonprofit organization brings its anti-bullying message to more than 60 percent of the elementary and middle school teachers in the state. People's United also has one of the largest corporate mentoring programs in the state. More than 130 mentors meet weekly with youth in our communities whose lives are enriched through a relationship with a caring adult.
