Employee volunteerism at People's United is an important part of our culture. You can see People's United employees involved in community service activities throughout the state -- from the local cancer walk-a-thon to serving in leadership positions on nonprofit boards.
The bank recognizes employees' dedication to community service with several different internal awards.
The Samuel W. Hawley Award honors a member of the People's United family who demonstrates the qualities of community leadership exemplified by Mr. Hawley's distinguished career as People's United President and CEO. Mr. Hawley, who died in 2002, left an indelible mark on the communities he served in nearly 75 years of affiliation with People's United Bank. The 2005 winner of the Hawley Award is Mary Jo Wlodecki, an employee who has been deeply involved in the community throughout her career at People's United Bank. No winner named in 2006.
The People's United Spirit of Volunteerism Award is presented to employees who demonstrate exemplary community leadership or volunteerism. This award is peer-driven, with nominations coming from colleagues, and final selection is determined by senior employees who have engaged in a lifetime of community service. The 2006 winners were: Bryan Huebner, Terri Davies, Miriam James and Sandy Sandberg.
